Drumstick Cashew Masala/Mulakkada Jeedipappu Kura

Drumstick cashew masala or Mulakkada Jeedipappu kura is a famous vegetarian side dish in wedding and other occasions in old days before the era panner recipes. Of course, it still remains as the favourite side dish for Andhra People. It’s fun to eat drumsticks when I was a child. I use to save them till I finish all the food and then take time to savour the juice and flavour of drum sticks.

Ingredients:

  • Drumsticks – 2
  • Cashew nuts – 15
  • Tomato puree – 2 tbsp
  • Onions – Chopped (one big)
  • Green chillies – Slit (5)
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp
  • Cumin powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Coriander powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp
  • Garam masala powder – 1 tbsp
  • Poppy seeds paste – 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil – 3 tbsp
  • Cilantro leaves – few (chopped)

Before start making Drumstick cashew masala curry we need to do two things first.

Boil water in two different vessels. In one of the vessel add cashews and let it cook for 15 minutes. In another boiling water vessel add drum sticks and let them cook for five minutes. You can start preparations like cutting onions and chillies while it is boiling to save some time!

How to Prepare Drumstick Cashew Masala/Mulakkada Jeedipappu Kura:

  1. Heat Oil in a pan and fry chillies and chopped onions till it turns golden brown colour.
  2. Add ginger garlic paste to it and sauté till all the raw smell has come out.
  3. Add drumsticks to it and stir fry for five minutes.
  4. Add tomato puree to it and pour a cup of water to it.
  5. If you add chopped tomatoes place a lid on it and let it cook till the tomatoes becomes soft and tender.
  6. Then follow the same step after adding tomato puree (add a cup of water).
  7. After adding water, mix it and let it cook for 5 minutes on high flame.
  8. Add cashews, salt, chilli powder and mix well.
  9. Place a lid on it and cook for 15 minutes till the consistency changes.
  10. Then add coriander powder, garam masala powder, cumin powder, poppy seeds paste.
  11. Mix well and cook till it comes thick gravy.
  12. Sprinkle corriander and mix.
  13. Drumstick Cashew Masala/Mulakkada Jeedipappu Kura is ready.
